In Turkish, To Have is a special verb.

The words for [have] and [not have] are [var] and [yok], which also translate to [there is] and [there are not].

Here is the pattern.

Noun[add the possessive ending] var/ yok

All vowel harmony rules apply. Var and yok can be modified, but in this lesson, we will only look at the simplest form.

Let’s look at some examples

[bir] Evim var- I have a house

Ev-[vowel]-m[possessive ending] var.

Evin var-you have a house

Kedim yok- I don’t have a cat
